Collection of Artists
What does it mean to be an artist?
What happens when an artist uses its body as an archive of another artist's body?
Which information, memories, recollections are there to be transmitted?
Raquel meets artists and asks them to transmit her a fragment of their work. She asks them how they became artists, how they work, how much is their work worth, or what drives them to do what they do in the artistic contexts they operate in. In this piece, she places side by side artistic practices from various horizons in their relationship with the art market and society at large and work on what is afterall to be an woman artist and take her own body as a political manifesto
Until 2019, she collected 18 artists in various cities around the world: Bergen, Salzburg, Faro, Warsaw, Cincinnati, New York, Loule, Berlin, Orléans, Porto, Montemor-o-Novo and Lisbon.
In telling their stories, Raquel André tells us her own story.
This Collection is also accompanied by a collection of 8 mini-docs.
This work is part of the project Collection of People: Collection of Lovers, Collection of Collectors, Collection of Artists and Collection of Spectators.
